Meet the instructors:

Ben Lawry:
Ben is the Stellar USA Team National Technical Rep and general Paddling GURU! He has competed all over the world in a variety of disciplines including sprint, sea kayak, marathon canoe and kayak, outrigger, surf ski and wild-water events (as part of the US National Wild-water Team) and even slalom and rodeo. His races include the Dusi, Adige and Cesky Krumlov marathons, monthly local derbies, the Blackburn and the General Clinton just to name a few.

Ben is a coveted instructor and presenter. He teaches and travels extensively in North and South America, South Africa, Europe and Asia. He is a regular lecturer and coach at the National American Canoe Association (ACA) Conference and has presented and coached at ACA Europe Conference and National Whitewater Symposium.

Greg Stamer:
Greg is the past-President and founder of Qajaq USA, the American Chapter of the Greenland Kayaking Association (Qaannat Kattuffiat). Greg loves to teach and has coached across the USA and worldwide. He participated with the first American team at the Greenland Rolling Championships placing Gold as well as setting speed records for circumnavigations around places like Newfoundland and Iceland along with multiple top finishes in the 300+ mile adventure race The Everglades Wilderness Waterway Challenge.

Jay Rose:
Jay is the Owner of Paddlesports of Naples and an ACA Level 3 Instructor with Rolling and Traditional Skills Endorsements as well as a BCU 3 Star accreditation. His business specializes in composite repair, sea kayak and surfski instruction. He is also the go to for Retail sales of all things sea kayak and surfki. Jay has a deep passion for guiding paddlers on their path to the ultimate combination of skills and the equipment to match.

Michael Devlin:
Mike is the owner of Paradise Coast Kayak Tours as well as the co-founder and President of the Paradise Coast Paddlers Club. A member of the support crew in the Diana Nyad Dream Team Cuba to Key West crossing and multiple trips around the country Mike has seen and done it all.

Class Offerings:

Ben Lawry:
(9:30am) Essentials to the Wing Paddle and Performance Paddling
(2-2.5 Hours – $65/person – Includes Entry to Race Series on Sunday)
Designed for paddlers using or thinking of using the Wing style kayak paddle with a focus on efficiency for racers and distance cruisers. This class will also go over getting used to different maneuvering strokes with the wing blade. The cost of this class also includes the cost to the enter the race series on the festival day, Sunday the 8th.

Greg Stamer:
(9:30am) Performance Greenland Forward Stroke
(2-2.5 Hours – $65/person)
Class to improve your speed and efficiency. We will explore both torso rotation (wing-style) and “crunch” (traditional) techniques. Most Greenland-style kayakers (outside of Greenland) use a mix of both styles, so concentrating on each technique is helpful to increase awareness and also to allow you to discover which technique you prefer, rotation, crunch or “hybrid”.

Greg Stamer and Jay Rose:
(12:30pm) Greenland Skills Course
(2.5-3 Hours – $75/person)
When you are ready to get more than “just” paddling out of your kayaking experience than this course is for you. This is a class designed to use Greenland Paddles but a euro blade can also be used. Covered will be High and Low Braces, Balance Braces, Sculling, Kayak Rolling and more.

Mike Devlin:
Introduction to Kayaking Fundamentals Course
(1.5-2 Hours – $50/Person – 9:30am, 12:30pm)
Whether you’re new to paddling or looking to make sure you’re solid on all the basics this is the class for you. Among everything covered a few of the topics reviewed can be seen below.
How to transport your kayak (if needed)
How to efficiently paddle (that fits your physical abilities)
How to turn easily with less effort
How to rescue yourself and others (tell the person with you how to rescue you)

Classes are limited to 12 people max per course. Payment can be made by check in person or mailed to Mike Devlin or Jay Rose. Contact either of them for mailing information.
